These one-of-a-kind mini artworks are created entirely from reclaimed masking tape collected during the making of my larger paintings.
I use masking tape extensively in my work: to define shapes, create pixelated details, and build my signature glitch effects. Even after reusing it several times, there comes a point when each piece of tape has reached the end of its life. Because my paintings are often very colorful, these discarded fragments become valuable little artifacts in their own right.
Rather than throwing them away, I carefully arrange and preserve them on 4 × 4 inch wood panels. Some compositions are meticulously organized, while others embrace the joyful chaos of color and chance. Each piece is completely unique.
The tape is permanently sealed using gloss medium and protected with a varnish finish. The edges are painted in a contrasting color, and because the works are abstract and square, they can be displayed in any orientation, even diagonally.
These mini pieces are an ongoing series, created as a by-product of my painting practice and a celebration of reuse, color, and experimentation.
